There are many stunners in Autechre’s illustrious catalog, but 2002’s bonkers Gantz Graf EP – released shortly after the groundbreaking micromontage epic Confield – is a wholly unique specimen. The skull-crushing flashcore of the EP’s title track remains one of modern music’s most jaw-dropping moments. For our money, quite possibly more insane than anything Aphex Twin has ever released, and that’s saying something. The six-minute “Dial.” is also a severely underrated one, perfectly encapsulating the Rochdale duo’s early-aughts madness. All in all, another solid outing from one of the most important electronic acts ever.
