Difficult to imagine this masterpiece is already 10 years old. A strong contender for the greatest work of Dean Blunt’s career thus far, BBF Hosted by DJ Escrow – the sole album from the boundary-pushing London artist’s Babyfather side project – contains 23 tracks of wildly inventive and politically charged hip-hop that, more or less, predicted the UK’s post-Brexit era. The group’s series of mixtapes, from 2015’s UK2UK to 2017’s Cypher, are also incredible, but BBF is clearly the defining release of Babyfather’s truly unique discography. The album’s real showstopper is “Deep,” a wonky, mostly instrumental cut (featuring co-production from Arca!) that ranks among the decade’s finest tracks.
