Kraut heads, rejoice: fresh in the shop is a trio of quality reissues courtesy of Berlin-based label Grönland Records. Included in the batch is a 2015 remastered gatefold edition of Harmonia’s 1974 debut masterpiece, Musik von Harmonia. A key work of early ‘70s electronica that predicted everything from the hypnagogic pop of Ferraro, Clark, and Mehran to the eerie tribalism of countless ‘90s post-rock bands, Musik von Harmonia is truly a monumental record. Majorly influential, there’s just nothing else quite like it, not even in the grand scope of krautrock or German progressive electronic music. It’s certainly one of our favorite albums of all time (if you couldn’t tell already, winkk ;).

“Watussi” is one of those openers that you never forget, something that wouldn’t feel out of place on a classic Monopoly Child Star Searchers or Matrix Metals release. “Sonnenschein” brings the gritty, technicolor funk, and “Hausmusik” is a gentle piece of ambient capital-D Drone, one that reminds us why these gents were regular Brian Eno collaborators.

Perhaps the greatest supergroup ever? We love Cluster and Neu! just as much, don’t get us wrong, but Musik von Harmonia is something special indeed.
