It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Taylor Ross’s angular folk rock, which we’ve been following ever since the release of Third Missive back in 2015. The Leaving Records follow-up to that release, 2016’s A V, is just as brilliant. Heavily incorporating the recorder and billed as “Fake Classical / Neo-Baroque” in style, A V might be Ross’s most polished record to date. It’s a little bit prog, a little bit chamber pop, and very mathy in terms of bass/guitar/drums arrangement. The 12-song record closes with the melodic pop perfection of “Time Being,” which showcases Ross’s generational songwriting talent.
